An astonishing museum that tells no small amount of Chester's history. The Ancient Roman exhibits are vast and come highly recommended!
Old-fashioned museum in terms of many displays and some exhibits but it’s free. The Roman tombstone exhibit is fascinating, with clear explanations of the designs and carvings on the stones. I also enjoyed the house museum at the back, although the floor arrangement is confusing, as it’s not in chronological order. Spent about an hour.
Really interesting mixture of items ranging from roman to natural history, mostly covering the history of the Chester area. Learnt so much about the city. Bigger than I thought and can easily spend over an hour there. The building itself is also beautiful. Free entry too.
A small, but informative museum with an impressive collection. I highly recommend a visit if you are interested in Roman era stones and altars as there is a large collection here from the city.
The staff are friendly and passionate about the heritage that they are stewards of. I really picked up on their sense of pride.
Entrance is free, but they do rely on donations.
We vety much enjoyed our visit.
When the teenager asks to go to the museum to have a look round as soon as she got off the train instead of the park. If that's what the teenager wants then not arguing with her as it kept her off her electronics whilst learning new things.
Beautiful building and some lovely, interesting stuff to look at.
A lovely place, good for all ages.
No visit to roman Chester will be complete without the museum.
Extremelly helpful staff.
Thank you!
